New emojis for 2018

New emojis for 2018

February 28, 2018

From cupcakes to reddheads, the new emojis are arriving this year!

With a new year comes a new batch of emojis, and we could not be more excited. Last year, with the release of Unicode 10.0, we got a mind-blowing 56 emojis that included dinosaurs, dumplings, and, yes, a mind-blowing emoji. In 2018, we're getting even more, with Unicode 11.0 dropping 157 new emojis on our phones come June 2018, according to The Verge. (That's including all skin tones; it's 77 if you don't count the range of skin tones as individual characters.)

Although that's still four months away, Emojipedia's preview assures us this is well worth the wait, because we're getting moon cakes, supervillains, llamas, and skateboards. People with red hair, natural hair, silver hair, and no hair are also finally getting their due.

Now, the increased representation is reason enough to celebrate, but the rest of the emojis are also pretty neat. Two new face emojis, the "Overheated Face" and "Freezing Face" emojis, reflect the extreme-weather patterns we're increasingly experiencing as a result of climate change, while the "receipts" emoji is useful for, well, when you have receipts. Some, like the bagel, mango, and cupcake emoji, are well overdue in letting us show the full range of our culinary desires, while others, like the moon cake, firecracker, and red envelope, are useful for celebrating the lunar new year. Meanwhile, there seem to be a few themes going on, like microbes, test tubes, and safety goggles for scientists and lotion, soap, and sponges for skin-care enthusiasts.

Check out the rest of the emojis on Emojipedia, and start counting down the days until June.

BUST: Thread the tape measure under your arms, across your shoulder blades at back and around the fullest part of your bust at the front. Relax your arms at your sides while keeping the tape parallel with the floor. If this measurement falls on the ½ centimeter, round up.

WAIST: Bend to one side to find the natural indentation in your torso. This is your natural waist. Run the tape around your natural waistline, keeping the tape parallel to the floor and one finger between your body and the tape for a more comfortable fit.

HIP: Stand on a level surface with your feet together. Measure around the fullest part of your hips and bottom, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
